Your stay

What is rural coliving?

Rural coliving combines remote work, shared living, and community impact in a village. Unlike urban coliving or working alone from home, it connects people who work remotely with the revitalisation of a depopulated area — in our case Anceu, in Galicia. In practice it means living alongside 10–15 people who want to get on with their own work and give something back locally. There is more on what rural coliving actually is.

Where is Anceu Coliving?

In the village of Anceu, in Ponte Caldelas, Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. It is quiet and green, about 30 minutes from Pontevedra, 45 from Vigo and an hour from Santiago de Compostela.

How do I get there?

If you drive, follow the directions in Google Maps and we will be waiting. If you come by public transport, there is no train station at Ponte Caldelas, so we collect you in the village itself — tell us your travel plans in advance so we can coordinate. Here is everything you need to get here.

Do I need a car?

No. About 30% of colivers have one, there are four more at the coliving belonging to the team, and the groceries arrive online. Between those, we always work something out.

How long can I stay?

From 15 nights to 60. We ask for the minimum because a community needs people to be around long enough to become part of it, and the maximum because rotation is what keeps it from closing in on itself. People often come back for several stays across a year.

Can I stay less than 15 nights?

The minimum is fixed at 15 nights. If your circumstances are unusual, email us and explain — if there is availability, we will try to find a way.

What kind of rooms are there?

Every room is ensuite and has a working station, and every room costs the same. They vary in size and in character: each was decorated by a resident artist, and all of them have a comfortable bed and natural light.

How does the cancellation policy work?

Once we confirm your stay, you pay the first 14 nights before you arrive, through a Stripe payment link we send you by email. The rest, with extras like drinks and laundry, is paid at the end of your stay, or monthly if you stay longer than a month. You can pay on site by card or by bank transfer.

Because of regulations, bookings are not refundable. If something has happened and you cannot come, contact us and we will find a solution that works for both sides.

Working here

How fast is the internet?

1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) symmetric fibre — one of the fastest connections of any coliving in Spain. It holds up to video calls, large uploads and a house full of devices at once, and there is a backup connection for outages.

Is Anceu good for remote work?

It is what the place is built for. There are two coworking spaces — a silent room for focus and a social one — plus two private call rooms, ergonomic chairs, adjustable desks, and a quiet-hours policy during the working day. Every room has a desk of its own for calls. Most people here work full-time remote jobs or run their own businesses. You can see the space.

Eating

What food is included?

Coffee, tea and bread for breakfast. Lunch is up to you — everyone’s schedule is different and we gave up trying to organise it. Dinner is the shared meal.

How do the communal dinners work?

We eat together on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, for €5 a dinner or €15 for the week. They are optional, and they are the best part. There is a longer explanation of how our communal dinners work.

How do groceries work?

There is a supermarket ten minutes away if you have a car. If you do not, we place a weekly online order — your own things and the ingredients for the communal dinners go in together.

Living together

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, and please do. We call it dogmunity living, and the dogs are as much part of the day as anyone. They need to be well behaved and up to date on vaccinations. Here is everything about bringing your dog, and what a dog-friendly coliving is actually like to live in.

Can I bring children?

We love kids, but honestly: no. The place is built around people working, and the common areas are arranged for adults. There are family-friendly places nearby that will suit you better.

How many people are here?

Between 10 and 15, depending on the season. If the number matters to you, say so when you write and we will tell you what the month looks like.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No. You can take part in everything we and Rural Hackers run without it, and the team will bridge the gap where it is needed — the workshops, the art projects and the tech experiments all run in whatever language the room speaks.

What is Rural Hackers?

Rural Hackers is a non-profit co-founded at Anceu that puts technology, art and rural revival together. It runs monthly knowledge-sharing events, artist residencies, open-source projects such as Punto de Agua, and biodiversity actions.

Do you organise workshops?

Yes. Some are ours, like the Rural Hacking Workshop and the ECHN workshop; others we run with people from outside, like RuralGPT, where we teach AI to people working in tech. If you want to organise your own, write to us.

Are there yoga or training classes?

Yes. Andrea teaches yoga twice a week. Víctor lives in the village and runs personal training and boxing four times a week, as Rural Champs. Ask when you arrive for this week’s times and how to join.

What it costs

What are the rates?

Prices are for a private ensuite room for one person. The minimum stay is 15 nights and the maximum is 60. Stays shorter than 30 nights: +25%.

For an extra guest, add €10 per day to stays of 30–60 nights, or €12.50 per day to stays of 15–29 nights.

What is included in the price?

WiFi, all the coworking spaces, utilities and cleaning. Breakfast basics — coffee, tea and bread — are included too.

Charged separately, at cost: the communal dinners (€5 each, €15 a week), laundry (€3 a load — €2 to wash, €1 to dry, with cleaning products included), and the sodas, beer, ice creams and wine in the shared fridge.
