Working Remotely from Galicia, Spain
Galicia is Spain’s best-kept secret for remote workers. Here’s why northern Spain deserves a spot on your digital nomad radar.

Why Galicia for Remote Work?
Most digital nomads head to Barcelona, Madrid, or the Canary Islands. Galicia offers something different:
- 40-50% lower cost of living than Barcelona or Madrid
- Excellent internet infrastructure (1Gbps fiber widely available)
- Mild year-round climate (no extreme heat like southern Spain)
- Stunning nature without the crowds
- Authentic Spanish culture (not tourist-oriented)
- Proximity to Portugal (Porto is 1.5 hours away)
Cost of Living in Galicia
| Expense | Monthly cost |
| Coliving (Anceu) | €882 – €1260 |
| Apartment rental (1BR) | €400 – €800 |
| Groceries | €200 – €300 |

Getting Around Galicia
With a Car (Recommended)
Having a car is the best way to get around. You can rent one for €300-500 per month from Santiago airport, or buy a reliable used car for €3,000-5,000. Fuel costs €1.50-1.80 per liter, and parking is usually free outside the cities.Without a Car
If you don’t have a car, buses connect major cities but run infrequently to villages. Trains operate along the Santiago-Vigo-Pontevedra corridor. Carpooling is common within coliving communities, and BlaBlaCar works well for traveling between cities.Reality check: For rural Galicia (including Anceu), a car significantly improves your experience. Public transport exists but is limited.
Weather & Best Times to Visit
| Season | Temperature | Rain | Notes |
| Spring (Mar-May) | 12-20°C | Moderate | Green landscapes, comfortable |
| Summer (Jun-Aug) | 18-28°C | Low | Warmest, but rarely hot |
| Autumn (Sep-Nov) | 12-20°C | High | Rainy but beautiful |
| Winter (Dec-Feb) | 3-14°C | High | Mild but wet |
Galicia is called Green Spain for a reason—it rains. But it’s rarely extreme, and the landscape is stunning year-round.
